Computer Science graduate with an enthusium for IT
Welcome to my portfolio website! Below you can learn a basic overview and summary of who I am, my interests and goals. If you'd like to learn more, please view the relevant sections for more information.
To offer a summary of myself, my name is Paul Walker, an IT enthusiast located in South West Scotland. I've spend much of my life surrounded by computers and technology which therefore encouraged me to pursue a career in the IT industry. To aid in this, I attended Dumfries & Galloway College and studied for a Higher National Diploma in IT to build upon experience I had learned during my own time in technical support aspects. I then attended the University of the West Scotland in Dumfries to study an Honours Degree in Computing Science graduating in late 2019. Both my areas of education have given me insights in various areas of IT and I'm excited to gain work experience to decide which aspect is the best fit for me.
To gain some more experience in technical support, I volunteered with Lead Scotland to act as Digital Skills Mentor which was aimed at supporting vulnerable individuals to help setup various devices such as tablets and laptops to improve their confidence in a growing digital world. I also volunteered at Apex Scotland to gain work experience in web development before finally gaining employment with them. During my time with Apex Scotland I built on my web development skills while being introduced to the world of Salesforce and have since been studying to gain an administration credential.
Beyond this I'm still interested in various aspects of IT and currently looking for opportunities to broaden my experience.
Through studies and past work experience, I've developed skills with HTML, CSS and JavaScript allowing me to build applications for use via web browsers. I'm able to logically plan and design my approach in order to ensure the product is both functional and efficent at its tasks.
Through past work experience and independent studies I've become highly familarised with the Salesforce CRM. Familar with both Classic and Lightning Experience, I'm able to understand concepts vital to ensuring the CRM will work efficently and remain secure while not impacting workflow.
Through studies and personal experience, I'm able to diagnose, repair or provide advice on solving both hardware and software problems for desktop computers and laptop devices. This ranges anywhere from performing a hardware upgrade to finding a solution to a software problem.
Along with developing funcationality, I'm able to consider what it means to make a web product appealing to the user. This will include ensuring the product appears modern and has UI elements in easy to find places while having an overall appealing appearance to catch user attention.
Through work experience and studies on Trailhead, I've covered aspects of how to configure and secure a Salesforce org. This can range from inital setup with custom objects, permissions and profiles to building lightning apps/pages and applying automated solutions such as workflow rules and validation.
Through volunteering and personal experience, I've assisted people with understanding how to use their digital devices through in-person support, video calls and over the phone. This can range from device initial setup to helping them install and configure a video application such as Zoom or a banking application.
A project based on Salesforce, using HTML, CSS, JavaScript and SOQL Queries.
A project based on preparing a company to use and enforce Salesforce MFA.
A research and development project based around web development methods.
